Easy Save Money Budget Tips
by Deb Atkins
Many budgeting articles, you often see make a budget, because most people don't have one. However, it is also useful if you do to occasionally realign your current one for more efficient use of your money to free up money you can save.
The words "spending less" or "frugal" can be deceiving if you don't fully understand what it means. You can buy a household item for half the cost but use three times as much of it to do the same job. The same is true for almost anything. As a result, you must be careful to balance cost with use, quality, and longevity.
General Guidance
Food, shelter, clothing and transportation are the primary examples of needs versus wants. In a modern world, car and phone gadgets are a necessary part of a busy working individual. However, unless you are receiving more than $10,000 per month, you basically will not need to have a $40,000 to $50,000 luxury vehicle. However, when buying a new vehicle, a pre-owned luxury vehicle at 50% of it original cost that just came off of its lease, during which all of the maintenance had to be done, may not be a bad deal.
Many people turn to buying in bulk. Consumables that are non-perishable can often be purchased 10-15% cheaper when they are purchased in bulk. You must be careful, however, to stock up only on quickly-moving items, such as canned goods, household cleaners, towel products, and similar items. For perishable items, consider teaming up with family members so you avoid wasting money by throwing out food that has gone bad.
For individual or family meals for work or home, planning is key. Take time on the weekends to plan meals for the following week and eat at home. Eating out 4 times a week need not be your solution to a dynamic lifestyle. Menu planning and carrying your lunch should be the norm and not the exception.
Budget Your Debt
Credit cards are very convenient especially if you pre-program yourself to pay off the bill within 30 to 90 days of making a purchase. Otherwise, it throws off your budget by adding a new or higher bill than is budgeting for that obligation.
This is why budgeting for 2 years is useful. It helps you to establish goals for spending and for financial-calculator.bullionseed.com/save.html" target="_blank">saving. If you see a growing financial-calculator.bullionseed.com/save.html" target="_blank">savings constantly increasing in the spreadsheet budget plan, you may be more likely to make the financial-calculator.bullionseed.com/save.html" target="_blank">savings deposits consistently. This can even be motivation for returning an item you bought on impulse just because it was on sale and not because it was something you were looking for. That is why establishing your goals and priorities is important. It is also writing it down is important.
Here are a few more tips that can cut expenses from your budget:
Review your phone service(s)
1. See where you can cut your spending. Do you currently have a cell phone with minutes you never use? Would a pay as you go cell phone work better for you where you only pay for minutes as you need them?
2. On your home telephone service, do you make enough phone calls to warrant unlimited dialing or would a 65 phone call (or less) a month plan work just as well?
3. Has your internet provider increased rates? Many providers have internet, television, and cell phone combined package discounts. Would a new package deal be less expensive?
Review your banking fees
3. Order your own checks on the Internet and not through your bank. You can find the same check online for about half the price. All you need is your account number and routing number.
4. Close accounts you no longer use. Inactive accounts are usually charged fees after 90 days - why give your money away?
5. Balance your checkbook, since banks do make mistakes. True story: once I actually had a check withdrawn 3 months after it originally was cashed by way of a faxed copy of my original check. The staff at that company by the way was terminated. Keep on top of your own finances!
